Computational Fluid Dynamics:
Flow Sciences and CFD DESIGN
Over the past 30 years Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has been used to simulate increasingly complex fluid/gas flows and heat exchange processes in a variety of applications encountered in most notably, but not limited to aerospace, automotive, construction, and nuclear industries. Recently CFD has begun to gain acceptance as an important design tool in HVAC applications, as computing power and commercially available modeling software became more economically accessible to the industry.

CFD Model of an FS Enclosure |
CFD is a highly complex process utilizing computer generated modeling to solve a series of complex equations based on the movement of fluids and gases. By using this science, engineers are able to predict and optimize airflow velocity and flow field distribution in laboratory safety enclosures. This allows Flow Sciences to understand how to design hoods that can provide three key features:
- Maintain a high level of containment protection
- Provide stable airflow environment for weighing and measuring equipment inside hood work area
- Ensure that materials inside the enclosure are undisturbed by airflow
Flow Sciences was one of the first laboratory hood companies to utilize CFD in the design of their enclosures. By continuing to be on the cutting edge of technology, Flow Sciences is able to provide the most proven and tested containment enclosures on the market.
