Q. What is the warranty on Flow Sciences' enclosures and workstations?
A. Flow Sciences, Inc. guarantees all products against defects in materials or workmanship for a period of 90 days, following the date of receipt. Additionally all mechanical and electrical components are guaranteed against defects in materials or workmanship for a period of one year, following the date of receipt.
Q. How long does each filter last?
A. Filter life is heavily dependent on the application. For HEPA filters, size of particulate and frequency of use are factors in determining filter life.
Q. How does Flow Sciences certify installation?
A. Flow Sciences is not a hood certification company therefore we are not allowed to certify our enclosures. Many testing and certification companies are available and most are familiar with our products. Flow Sciences will be happy to offer referrals if your company does not currently use a certification company. Flow Sciences systems are tested just like a standard fume hood. The test usually includes face velocity and smoke tests with filter testing if applicable.
Q. What should be used to clean a Flow Sciences enclosure?
A. We recommend the use of Cinch, a Spic-and-Span product, however many companies do use their own cleaning solutions. It is strongly recommended that acetone is NOT used to wipe down the enclosures. Acetone will react with the acrylic and cause irreversible damage. Also try to stay away from glass cleaners and alcohol (greater than 30%).
Q. Do Flow Sciences' enclosures have lighting fixtures installed?
A. The acrylic that is used in the construction of the units actually transmits light better than glass so laboratory lighting is usually sufficient for Flow Sciences' enclosures. The units do not have lighting fixtures installed. Flow Sciences strives to keep the enclosures as clutter free as possible so as not to disrupt the airflow.
Q. What base colors are available?
A. Black and white are the standard colors available.
Q. What face velocity should these units be run at?
A. Flow Sciences recommends that all balance enclosures and workstations be run between 60 and 100 linear feet per minute. Your safety personnel will determine the correct face velocity for your application.
Q. What is a thimble connection and do I need one?
A. When connecting a FS Fan/Filter to house exhaust, Flow Sciences recommends the use of a Thimble Connection to provide safe exhausting of the Fan/Filter Housing. Since each Fan/Filter Housing has a built-in fan downstream from the filter, the connection should be made with the Flow Sciences' Thimble Connection which has been designed to be slightly larger (5"ID) than the discharge duct from the Fan/Filter Housing which is 4" OD. The thimble is then fitted with 4"ID flex hose which runs to the general exhaust. The house exhaust should pull more CFM that the Fan/Filter is exhausting. For example, if the Fan/Filter Housing is exhausting 100 CFM, Flow Sciences recommends the General Exhaust be set to 115 CFM. The purpose of this is to prevent fluctuations in the general exhaust from adversely affecting the performance of the enclosure.
