Thimble Connection

In cases where the FS Fan/Filter Housing is connected to the house exhaust, Flow Sciences recommends the use of the "air gap" (thimble connection). The purpose of the thimble connection is to prevent fluctuations in the general exhaust from adversely affecting the performance of the Flow Sciences' enclosure. Fluctuations can result from pressure changes in the laboratory due to adverse weather or inconsistencies in the general exhaust.

Since the FS Fan/Filter Housing has a built-in fan downstream from the filter, the connection to the general exhaust should be made with an FS2083.

The thimble connection has been designed to be slightly larger than (12.7 cm (5") ID) than the discharge from the Fan/Filter (10.2 cm (4") OD). A section of flexhose (10.2 cm (4") ID) is then connected to the end of the thimble connection.
