Capsule Filling Containment

The process of capsule filling in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, CRO, and local pharmacy have advanced to include automated and easier manual filling of capsules.  As powders become more potent and exposure levels increase with possibility of toxic effects to the laboratory operators, the need for powder containment becomes important.

Flow Sciences, Inc. has engineered containment specific to the multitude of capsule filling equipment and specific operations based on this safety need.  Whether the lab technician or process operator is doing a 100 to 300 count manual fill or a robot is autodosing 3000 capsules, FSI can adquately contain the Occupation Exposure Level (OEL) required by the facility.  Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) confirms that the capsule filling equipment eliminated particulate contaminates from the lab.

The containment enclosure above was designed for a Drug-Development company engaged in research for both the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.  The design for this enclosure was for a robotic capsule filling equipment that delivers capsules with great speed and precision.  During automated processes, particulates not necessarily seen by the eye, can be released into the operators breathing zone which reinforces the importance of containment.  The three fan housings are all HEPA filtered and safely recirculated back into the laboratory environment.

The FS2024 (pictured above) was designed for Compounding Pharmacists working specifically with a 300 count capsulation equipment.  The vertical profile of the Jaansun® manual capsule fill machine required a working area above the base.  To accomodate proper air flow a draft shield was implemented into the design.
